How to Measure for a Top-Mount Hinged Cap

Because this cap utilizes a hinged mounting flange that sits flat on your chimney crown, you must account for the hardware when measuring.

1. Measure the total outside length and width of your brick/masonry chimney top.

2. Subtract 3 inches from both the length and the width. (This provides the necessary clearance for the hinge base to sit flat on the crown without hanging over the edge).

3. Draft Clearance: Ensure you select a screen height that provides a minimum of 6 inches of clearance between the top of your tallest flue tile and the lid of the cap for proper smoke drafting. (Note: Steeper hip & ridge pitches will slightly decrease the functional screen height near the edges).

As the Hip and Ridge Pitch (w/Std. Overhang) increases, it will decrease the height of the screen.

Example: A 3/12 Pitch on a Hip and Ridge Multi Flue will decrease the screen height by .908”.
